How does abstract intuitive painting, evolve into a home decor collection? See the steps involved in translating a painted canvas into functional decor. Painter and ceramics artist Nicole M Curcio draws on her 20+ years of experience in the design and decor industry; finding inspiration in the cities we inhabit and the places we go to escape. Combining her home design and decor background with her artistic sensibility, she’s become interested in making art more approachable to a broader audience by integrating her artwork into items for everyday use. Enter her new brand, Well Traveled Wares.
Join us during Design Week for a preview of select pieces from Well Traveled Wares. Learn how creative collaboration and idea sharing is fueling this colorful, new lifestyle brand. The bright jewel-tones of Nicole’s City Lights painting are balanced by the clean lines of a Mid-Century Modern aesthetic to create smaller scale furniture, lighting, decor and dishware, to fit in the smaller spaces where many of us dwell. All items in the collection are a collaboration with other artists: from graphic design, to upholstery, and woodworking. The collection relies on each person’s expertise within their chosen medium to skillfully design and handcraft every piece. Mingle with Nicole, the artist; Mandy Szigethy, owner and craftswoman at Rose City Upholstery; and James Violette, woodworker and lighting designer. Sip wine and snack on hors d’oeuvres while you tour Rose City Upholstery: see finished furniture, lighting, artwork and decor, as well as pieces and plans in-process.
